PRAYER POINTERS FOR THE COMING WEEK
Last sunday, in the evening service, we talked about Perichoresis. This rather odd theological word describes a wonderful image God (Father, Son and Spirit) in a dance with one another. As man has tried to understand the Trinity, and understand what the three persons of the Trinity do in their relationship with one another, this idea of the dance is one of the theories put forward as to how they communicate and exist as three persons in one God.
If our prayers were to be dance-like, what dance would it be?
This week, take a dance with God ...
The formal dance
Sometimes formal prayers such as those in the service book offer us a link to centuries of worship, joining us with people of prayer over the centuries.
Free style
Alternatively there is the extempore prayer where let the Holy Spirit guide our words. As the Holy Spirit inspired the written prayers centuries ago, so we let Him inspire fresh prayers in us today.
The quick step
Sometimes we are in a rush and yet it is important that we don't forget to pray, to communicate with our Lord, even if it is a quick one liner.
Gangnam Style (Google it if you don't know)
There is only one way to describe this new dance - mad. Sometimes our prayers are incoherent and incomprehensible, they are only understood by us and by God and yet they are still as valid as any other prayer.
What others forms of dance can you pray through with God today?
Teach me to dance to the beat of your heart
Teach me to move in the power of your Spirit
Teach me to walk in the light of your presence
Teach me to dance to the beat of your heart
Teach me to love with your heart of compassion
Teach me to trust in the word of your promise
Teach me to hope in the day of your coming
Teach me to dance to the beat of your heart.
