PRAYER POINTERS FOR THE COMING WEEK

Methodist Women in Britain and The Easter Offering Envelopes

This Sunday Evening’s service will be the Dedication of the Easter Offering Envelopes, and will be led by Di Wallace who is President of the Cumbria District MWiB.

“The theme for the Easter Offering Dedication Service for 2013 is Beyond the Harbour Wall.  What does it feel like to set out on a journey into the unknown? Are we willing to venture out believing that God draws us further on and that Jesus Christ travels with us, enabling us to face an uncertain future with courage? The Easter Offering Service for 2013 will help us reflect on these themes as we travel in the company of other pilgrims, discovering, with them, that in venturing out we become guests of the world.”

Here is a prayer taken from the Order of Service that you might use during the coming week:

Loving God, you call us, like Abraham and Sarah, to travel with you from the known and the familiar toward an unknown country; a place that you will show us; a future we cannot yet see. But we prefer not to hear. We refuse to embark. Loving Father, forgive us. Grant us the courage to venture out beyond the harbour wall.
Loving Jesus, you call us to trust ourselves, one another and you; to respond creatively to challenges as they arise; to live generously within our communities and work for justice in the world. But we are distracted by difficulties. We are ruled by our fears. Loving Jesus, travel with us. Teach us your way of faith.
Loving Spirit, you call us. Like the wind you rise amongst us with mysterious power: whispering encouragement, shouting with joy; You offer us insight and stir us to change. But we do not like what we see. We want to know where you are going. Loving Spirit, enlarge our vision. Inspire us to trust and praise.

Easter Offering

We dedicate our Easter Offering at the Circuit Service tonight at 6.30pm.

The Easter offering is organised by Methodist Women in Britain (Women’s Network).  The money goes to the World Mission Fund of the Methodist Church.  It supports mission partners (such as the Holland family) and also partner churches in particular projects.  It also funds the training of students from partner churches who are training in this country and in other countries.

Thank you very much indeed for your very generous giving to the Easter Offering. The total from this church came to £881.54.

The service will be led by Di Wallace, Cumbria District MWiB president.  Thank you all for your very generous and prayerful giving. Please do come to this special circuit service.

Monday Walks

Summer 2013 –
Evening Walks for church, circuit and friends.

This year’s Summer evening walks have now begun and will be held every Tuesday evening during May, June, July & August. Each evening we will leave by shared cars from the church at 6.30pm and travel for up to 20 minutes to the starting point. Each walk will be of up to 4 miles in length, after which there will be refreshments at one of our members’ houses or at the church.

A donation of £2.00 is requested on each walk (children free) as a contribution to charity. The charity chosen this year is ‘Twam’  - Tools with a  Mission. The important work of this charity featured at the recent Church Missions event held at PMC in April.

If you’d like to lead a walk (3-4 miles) or host the refreshments (even if you can’t walk) please have a word with Thelma or Graham Allan (Tel: 890390). We have a few opportunities left.

The evening walks are open to anyone who’d like a pleasant, sociable evening walk, often in glorious sunshine and always in good company.
